Mack Horton, City2Sea

Mack Horton, City2Sea

Mack Horton is one of Australia’s brightest young swimmers, rising up through the junior ranks of swimming, claiming five World Junior Championship gold medals. A National Champion in 400m and 1500m freestyle and 2014 Commonwealth Games Gold medallist in 4x200m freestyle, Mack famously announced his name on the world stage at the recent 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Melbourne born-and-bred rising star won Gold in 400m freestyle, fighting off Chinese Olympic champion, Sun Yang, and stood as spokesperson for ‘clean’ athletes. The 20-year-old now returns to Melbourne to take on the Sunday Age City2Sea, presented by Westpac this November.

Lisa Weightman, City2Sea

Lisa Weightman, City2Sea

Olympian and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Lisa Weightman is currently Australia’s fastest female marathoner with a personal best time of 69:00 for a half marathon and 2:26:05 for a full marathon, and she’ll be running with you at City2Sea!

Just over 12 months after the birth of her son Peter, Lisa qualified for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Lisa was training “better than ever before” in the lead up to Rio, but picked up an infection just days before her race. “Twenty-five kilometres into the marathon, I ended up getting quite dizzy” she said. “I’ve never had that happen to me, regardless of the temperature. I ended up in the medical tent on a drip at the end”. Lisa finished 31st overall and while she’s happy she made it to the finish line, it wasn’t the fairy-tale Olympics she had worked so hard for.

However the triple Olympian is ready to put all that behind her. On November 20, she will compete in The Sunday Age’s City2Sea 15km event for the first time, while her husband and one-year old son ‘Little Pete’ will cheer her on

It will be Lisa’s first major race after the Rio Olympics, which will kick off her training for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Look out for her along the course!
